Stitching with Intention: A Heartfelt Companionship Cafe Afternoon

At the end of June 2025, we had the pleasure of hosting a beautiful afternoon at the Companionship Café, focused on "Stitching with Intention." Led by the talented artist Susie Chaikin, this event created a meaningful and calming space for those navigating the complexities of grief.

Friends and attendees expressed how the gentle atmosphere allowed them to be present alongside one another, fostering moments of connection and support. Susie introduced the practice of creating Milagros—small charms from Mexico that symbolize hope, healing, and comfort. This craft not only engaged participants creatively but also provided a tangible way to express their intentions and feelings during this reflective time.

As people came together, seeking solace and connection, they found that the act of crafting and stitching contributed to their sense of community. The simple moments of reflection sparked deep conversations and forged new friendships, reminding us of the power of shared experiences in the journey of healing.

We are immensely grateful to Susie for bringing her artistic practice to the Café and for guiding us through this special afternoon. The warmth and connection fostered during “Stitching with Intention” reaffirmed our commitment to supporting one another through grief and celebrating the bonds that unite us. Thank you to everyone who participated; together, we continue to cultivate a compassionate community where support and understanding flourish.
