Honouring Grief Through Art: Henrietta Heron at the Companionship Cafe

Recently, we had the privilege of welcoming Henrietta Heron, a talented artist and writer, to the Companionship Cafe. Henrietta’s journey through grief and loss following the death of her child, as well as a significant family bereavement, profoundly transformed her life.

Henrietta illustrated and wrote a beautiful and tender story book that articulates her experiences with grief, combining her artistic talent and heartfelt storytelling. The book is designed for readers of all ages; the meaningful message is accessible to everyone.

During Henrietta’s visit to the Companionship Cafe, she read the story book and led a delightful craft-making activity where participants created their own small books. This hands-on experience allowed everyone to engage with the theme of grief in a creative way, fostering connections and conversations about loss.

Henrietta’s illustrations and the stories behind them resonated deeply with all the friends at the cafe, touching their hearts and inspiring them to reflect on their own experiences. Henrietta’s work is not just about her personal journey; it opens up vital discussions about death and loss, helping to normalize these conversations in a supportive environment.

We are incredibly grateful to Henrietta for sharing her story and her writing and illustration with us, reminding us all that creativity can be a powerful tool for healing and connection in our time of grief and loss.
