Grief Wreaths: A Session of Meaning and Hope at the Companionship Cafe

In July, our Compassionate Cafe embraced a truly heartfelt session as participants gathered to create grief wreaths, guided by the talented Skylark Doula, Heidi Westbrook.

This gathering was not just about crafting; it was a beautiful opportunity to bring meaning and hope to our hearts using seasonal foliage sourced from local farms and Heidi’s own garden.

Friends at the cafe – crafted their wreaths with a blend of creativity and remembrance that helped ease the heaviness of grief. Sharing stories and reminiscences became a natural part of the process, fostering connections among attendees who found solace in each other’s company.

The completed grief wreaths became cherished symbols for many, with friends choosing to place them on shrines at home, adorn gravestones, or even keep them in their cars—reminders of their loved ones that accompanied them in their daily lives.

This session at the Companionship Cafe illustrated the depth of community support, creativity, and shared experiences in the healing process. We look forward to more opportunities to gather, create, and remember together, honouring those we’ve lost while nurturing hope and connection within our community.

Thank you again to Heidi who is an end of life doula…. Meet Heidi
